My Carnival Journey, The Photomentary
a photo journalistic documentary telling a Carnival story through Keisha’s experiences and photos. The idea of My Carnival Journey began as Keisha started to understand another one her passions, Caribbean Carnivals. Keisha started looking back at photos she discovered from a child, the skills she learned while participating for a number of years with Washington, DC’s Caribbean Carnival.
Exploring The Journey Begins Here
As a woman of Grenadian/Arubian/American descent, Keisha’s family celebrated Caribbean Carnivals. Carnival was not just an event to celebrate and party. For Keisha, Carnival is an official holiday, celebrating the deep-rooted traditions she shared with other first generation Caribbean Americans. These traditions are based on religion, folklore, music, storytelling, and creativity of the Caribbean and surrounding areas.
It’s Bacchanal Time!
Every Carnival season Keisha found herself in DEVOTION, a devotion that is not represented as much as it should. Keisha plans to change that with her Photography project: MY CARNIVAL JOURNEY, The Photomentary by continuing to travel the world through the Caribbean-African Diaspora.
